For the Year of the Snake, we presented a glamorous evening of arts, music, culture and food at Lancaster Town Hall with the theme of ‘Shanghai Nights’ bringing back 1930’s Chinese style synonymous with the city’s early 20th Century heyday.
Distinguished guests included Pan Yundong, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester and his wife Consul Zhu Yu who presented a speech praising the growing links between Lancaster and China. The Mayor of Lancaster Councillor Sheila Denwood reflected the sentiments by sharing her experience of the Chinese community’s positive impact on the city.
The Chair of the Hua Xian Chinese Society Sam Moi Chan completed the speeches by thanking our guests of honour and guests including members of Lancaster City Council and representatives of Chinese Associations from across the North West of England for supporting the festival and the work of the organisation over the past year.
The evening then commenced with a lively variety show include Chinese lion dancing, snake charming dance, martial arts displays, tai-chi performance, Middle Eastern belly dancing and more.
